Nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK) compound fertilizer is a compound fertilizer composed of three main nutrients: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). This fertilizer can meet the needs of multiple nutrients during crop growth and improve crop yield and quality. NPK compound fertilizers are widely used in various food crops, fruit and vegetable crops, cash crops, etc. With the growth of global population and the increase in food demand, the increase in agricultural output has become a focus of attention in various countries, which has driven the fertilizer market, especially the demand for NPK compound fertilizers.
The global compound fertilizer production areas are mainly concentrated in areas with rich raw material resources, developed agricultural production and good fertilizer industry foundation. According to CRI analysis, the main countries producing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers in the world are China, Canada, Russia, Belarus, the United States, etc. North America, Latin America and Asia are the main consumption areas of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers in the world, and the markets in South America, the Middle East and Africa are growing continuously.
Indonesia is an important agricultural country in Southeast Asia, and the demand for nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK)compound fertilizer in Indonesia is increasing rapidly. Indonesia has a total cultivated land area of about 80 million hectares, and palm oil, rubber, coffee and cocoa are its main cash crops. According to CRI analysis, with the increase in the planting area of cash crops and food crops such as rice in Indonesia, the market size of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK) compound fertilizer in Indonesia is growing.
In recent years, Indonesia's local fertilizer production capacity has increased, but the overall chemical industry level and fertilizer industrialization level are still relatively backward, and the production capacity is relatively low. In the next few years, it will still rely on international imports. According to CRI data, Indonesia's imports of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK)compound fertilizer closed to US$196 million in 2024, and it is expected to continue to grow in the next few years.
According to CRI analysis, Indonesia's main import sources of NPK compound fertilizers include Singapore, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, Russia and the United Arab Emirates. The top three sources of NPK compound fertilizers imported by Indonesia were Singapore, Switzerland and Malaysia from 2021 to 2024. The main importers of NPK compound fertilizers in Indonesia were trading companies in Indonesia from 2021 to 2024. The main exporters of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers in Indonesia were overseas fertilizer manufacturers or trading companies between 2021 and 2024.
CRI predicts that the demand for NPK compound fertilizers in Indonesia will continue to grow in the next few years. However, due to the limited local fertilizer production capacity in Indonesia, it is expected that the import volume of NPK compound fertilizers in Indonesia will continue to rise in the next few years. CRI recommends that global fertilizer manufacturers should conduct research on the Indonesian fertilizer market as soon as possible to discover market opportunities.
