Global & Saudi Arabia Laparoscopic Devices Market to 2031
Description
The laparoscopic devices market in Saudi Arabia is witnessing robust growth, fueled by the rapid development of the healthcare sector, strategic government investments under Vision 2030, the high burden of chronic diseases, and the rise of medical tourism. The growing preference for minimally invasive surgeries—valued for their benefits such as reduced pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery—is a major driver behind this expansion. In 2024, the country's minimally invasive surgery market reached approximately USD 520.66 million. Saudi Arabia ranks among the top countries for bariatric surgery due to its high obesity rate, currently estimated at 35.6%. A retrospective cohort study conducted at a healthcare facility in Jeddah between October 2023 and June 2024, involving 208 bariatric patients, found laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) to be the most common procedure, accounting for 93.3% of cases. The study reported an average BMI reduction of 20.5% and improvements in obesity-related conditions, underscoring the efficacy of laparoscopic interventions. It is estimated that over 20,000 bariatric surgeries are performed each year in the Kingdom, predominantly through laparoscopic methods.
Laparoscopic techniques are also widely used in general surgery. A study titled Satisfaction and Wellbeing of General Surgery Trainees in the Saudi Arabian Residency Educational Environment: A Mixed-Methods Study, published in Surgical Open Science in June 2024, evaluated the laparoscopic training experience among general surgery residents from October 2021 to May 2023. While 62% of respondents expressed satisfaction with their exposure to laparoscopic surgeries, the study highlighted notable gaps in advanced skill training, indicating a continued need for structured educational programs.
Minimally invasive techniques are increasingly being adopted for colorectal surgeries, particularly as colorectal cancer is the second most prevalent cancer in Saudi Arabia, accounting for 12.3% of all cases in 2020. The rising demand for precise and advanced interventions is encouraging hospitals to invest in state-of-the-art surgical technologies, further advancing the use of laparoscopy in oncology.
Laparoscopic procedures are also commonly used in gynecological surgeries across the Kingdom. As part of Saudi Arabia's broader healthcare modernization efforts and patient-focused care models, there is a growing shift toward minimally invasive solutions for managing various gynecological conditions. Vision 2030’s emphasis on digital transformation and technological innovation continues to support the expansion of advanced surgical systems, including laparoscopy. Additionally, Saudi Arabia’s strategic positioning as a medical tourism hub attracts international patients seeking high-quality care, further strengthening the demand for laparoscopic expertise and devices.
