Oman is quickly becoming a key player in the market for IoT-enabled medical technologies, fueled by its strategic focus on digital transformation, significant investments in healthcare, and the changing needs of its population. The rising incidence of chronic diseases, along with an increasing elderly population—3.2% of individuals aged 65 and older in 2023 according to WHO statistics—highlights the pressing demand for advanced healthcare solutions. Life expectancy is on the rise, while cardiovascular diseases and cancer continue to be the primary causes of death. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for 83% of all deaths related to NCDs, as noted in a WHO mission report from January 2023.
The Omani government's Oman Vision 2040 and its comprehensive digital economy strategy strongly support the enhancement of healthcare services. Oman aims to be a regional frontrunner in digital health, as demonstrated by the national healthcare transaction and claims management system, Dhamani. By October 2024, Dhamani had successfully automated the pre-approval process for medical consultations and is expected to streamline medication approvals by October 2025. Furthering this progress, the Ministry of Health allocated over OMR 1 billion (approximately US$ 2.6 billion) to healthcare in 2023, marking a 24.6% increase compared to the previous year, as reported by the Times of Oman in August 2024.
