In response to these pressing issues, the Nigerian government initiated the Nigeria Digital in Health Initiative (NDHI) in June 2025, which aims to integrate data and technology into the healthcare delivery system. This initiative seeks to digitize over 720 health facilities, enhancing electronic medical records and data exchange systems to benefit more than 125 million patients. Furthermore, there are plans to digitally connect 7,000 rural community hospitals, supported by the expansion of telecom infrastructure, to improve healthcare access in underserved areas.

Telemedicine and remote patient monitoring are becoming increasingly popular, especially in regions lacking adequate healthcare services, where mobile-based solutions are effectively addressing significant service gaps. The country is also seeing the rise of smart hospital models that incorporate advanced technologies, sustainable design, and infection control measures. A significant development in this transformation was the opening of the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025, which is intended to serve as a leading center for specialized treatment and medical education.

These strategic initiatives, along with growing private sector investments in modern healthcare infrastructure, are setting the stage for significant growth in Nigeria's IoT medical device market.
