Global & Mexico IoT Medical Devices Market to 2033
Description
New Zealand is emerging as a promising market for IoT medical devices, fueled by its robust public healthcare system, a strong commitment to digital transformation, and an aging population. According to Stats NZ, the median age in New Zealand rose to 38.1 years in 2023 from 37.4 in 2018, reflecting an increasing number of older citizens. This demographic change, along with the high incidence of chronic diseases, highlights the urgent need for innovative healthcare solutions.
Health New Zealand (Te Whatu Ora) is at the forefront of advancing digital health initiatives. Although Budget 2025 revealed limited new funding specifically earmarked for data and digital health infrastructure, there is a clear emphasis on enhancing digital access to primary care services. A notable investment of $447 million over four years has been designated to improve access to primary care, which includes the introduction of 24/7 digital primary care for online medical consultations. This initiative aims for 10% of medical appointments to be conducted digitally by June 2026, as reported by Health Informatics New Zealand in May 2025.
Remote patient monitoring projects are also gaining momentum. The Piki Te Ora pilot program, initiated in July 2023 by Health NZ, is designed to provide remote monitoring for Maori communities in the Far North suffering from chronic conditions such as heart failure and COPD. This two-year pilot employs smartphones and smartwatches to gather daily health metrics and symptoms, with the goal of empowering patients and minimizing unnecessary hospital visits. Additionally, telehealth services for mental health are set to receive a significant enhancement, with $2.2 million allocated for mental health telehealth services in the upcoming financial year, according to Beehive.govt.nz in May 2025. These initiatives reflect a strategic move towards utilizing IoT technology to create more accessible and efficient healthcare solutions.
