Sunway Medical Centre in Selangor has reported performing over 500 robotic surgeries since the initiation of its robotic program, covering various specialties such as urology, gynecology, and colorectal surgery, utilizing the da Vinci Xi system. The hospital has highlighted benefits such as decreased blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and enhanced precision in complex anatomical areas.

Other institutions like Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur and Pantai Hospital have also incorporated robotic systems into their surgical practices, particularly for oncology and bariatric surgeries. The Ministry of Health in Malaysia is actively promoting the growth of robotic surgery through training initiatives and investments in infrastructure. These efforts include simulation-based education and credentialing pathways for surgeons, often in partnership with international technology firms.

Public hospitals, including Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, are beginning to investigate robotic systems for high-volume procedures, with pilot programs currently in progress. Robotic-assisted surgery is becoming more accessible in Malaysia, with modular systems that can be integrated into existing operating rooms without the need for extensive renovations. Clinical outcomes from documented cases indicate quicker recovery times and fewer postoperative complications. Malaysia’s healthcare strategy prioritizes innovation, safety, and aims to establish regional leadership in medical technology. These developments confirm that robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery is increasingly becoming a standard component of Malaysia’s surgical offerings, bolstered by institutional dedication and technological progress.
