Global & Malaysia IoT Medical Devices Market to 2033
Description
The Netherlands stands out as a highly digitalized country with a globally recognized healthcare system, making it a frontrunner in the market for IoT medical devices within the Nordic region. This leadership is driven by a strong commitment to digital transformation, a focus on patient-centered care, and the needs of an aging population.
The Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport (VWS) is pursuing an ambitious initiative to create a nationwide healthcare data network (LDN) by 2035, which aims to ensure comprehensive access to national health data. This project is designed to enhance integration, efficiency, and patient-focused care by standardizing data exchange and improving interoperability. The government is actively promoting the adoption of eHealth services, as seen on its Zorg van Nu (eHealth Now) platform, and is increasing funding for telehealth services. A specific telemonitoring procedure code has been established by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa), with a reimbursement rate of US$ 217.19 (approximately €185.63) for a 120-day period in 2025.
Remote patient monitoring is identified as a significant growth sector. The Netherlands has developed reimbursement models for remote patient monitoring, which include lump-sum payments for healthcare providers and operators of digital medical devices. Successful pilot programs, such as the initiative in North Jutland for COPD patients, have shown improvements in quality of life and reductions in hospital admissions, paving the way for wider implementation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Maastricht University Medical Centre+ successfully utilized remote monitoring for 777 heart patients through the FibriCheck app, demonstrating the effectiveness of IoT in minimizing in-person consultations and enhancing care efficiency.
Additionally, the development of smart hospitals and operational efficiency is a major focus. The New Bravis Hospital in Roosendaal, with its design finalized in February 2025, is set to become a smart hospital that will utilize technologies such as a Building Operating System (BOS), a tracking system for medical devices, and innovative outpatient clinic concepts to optimize space usage (Deerns). Renovation efforts at Rijnstate hospital in Arnhem, supported by a €90 million (approximately US$ 98.5 million) loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), aim to enhance energy efficiency and streamline care processes through digitalization. The Netherlands' high level of IT adoption in hospitals, combined with strong public trust in data privacy, creates a conducive environment for the growth of the IoT medical devices market.
