The dialysis equipment market in France is shaped by a healthcare landscape characterized by an aging population and a significant prevalence of chronic conditions, notably diabetes and hypertension, which are major contributors to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the subsequent need for dialysis. As of January 2025, France’s population was approximately 68.6 million, with over 20% of individuals aged 65 and older in 2024, according to Eurostat and World Bank data. This aging trend continues to drive the growing prevalence of kidney failure.
Diabetes is widespread in France, with notable increases in Type 2 diabetes as the population ages. While nationwide data for 2023–2025 is still evolving, a study referencing data through 2022 revealed a significant rise in diabetes rates, particularly among older adults. A separate study published in May 2025 highlighted that about 30% of French adults are affected by hypertension, although awareness and management of the condition remain areas of concern. These chronic conditions contribute to a substantial population requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT).
Data from the REIN Registry, France's national kidney disease registry, presented in March 2025 by Renaloo, showed that 51,662 patients were on dialysis in 2023, with a median age of 71, reflecting a predominantly elderly dialysis population. While the number of new patients starting RRT slightly decreased in 2022, particularly among those over 75, there was a troubling increase in younger patients (under 45) starting RRT between 2017 and 2022. The REIN Registry’s annual reports for 2023–2025 provide detailed data on treatment modalities and patient characteristics. The March 2025 summary noted a continued decline in autonomous dialysis options, indicating that in-center hemodialysis remains the dominant treatment method. This trend ensures a sustained demand for dialysis equipment such as machines, dialyzers, and water treatment systems in clinical settings across the country
