According to data from Statista, Chile's government allocated approximately US$0.017 trillion (equivalent to 15 trillion Chilean pesos) toward healthcare in 2022, signaling a strong national focus on strengthening its healthcare system. The Department of Economic and Social Affairs reported that in 2019, around 11.5% of Chile's population was aged 65 or older, and this figure is projected to rise to 21% by 2041. Chile’s public health insurer, FONASA, currently provides coverage for about 75% to 77% of the population, while the remainder is insured through private provider ISAPRE. However, disparities in healthcare access remain a significant concern. Individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds often face barriers to accessing advanced therapies, resulting in cancer mortality rates up to ten times higher compared to those with better healthcare access.
As the population continues to age, the incidence of cancer is expected to increase, thereby intensifying the demand for effective and innovative treatment options. This demographic trend is driving advancements in cancer care and contributing to the growth of the cancer therapeutics market in Chile.
