Survey of Lawyers at Major Law Firms, Plans for Including Law Schools in Estate Planning
This study looks at the likelihood of lawyer at major law firms including a law school in their estate planning.Just a few of this report's many findings are that: 52.84% of lawyers sampled felt it was very unlikely that they would include a law school in their wills or other estate planning.Other than tax lawyers, those specializing in energy/environment were the most likely to be aware of the tax advantages of bequests to law schools.Data in the 25-page report is based on a sample of 221 attorneys at 65 major US law firms. Data is broken out by gender, work title, age, law school ranking, predominant area of legal practice and other variables.Most of those in the sample who said it was very likely that they would include a law school in their estate planning were energy/environment or tax lawyers. Many attorneys who felt it was likely that they would include a law school in their estate were in healthcare and finance. Females were particularly more likely than men to consider including a law school in their will; nearly 18% thought it very likely, likely or somewhat likely that they would do so. For men, the corresponding figure was only 5.12%.
