Description
Survey of American College Students 2022, Transgender on Campus
Religiosity mattered as the most religious students were nearly twice as likely as the most secular to believe that trans students were treated better and less than half as likely to believe that they were treated worse. Also, on this issue, politics trumped all other factors; the more conservative the student, the greater the likelihood that they felt trans students received better treatment than their non-trans peers, and the lower the likelihood that they believed they received worse treatment.
Mean were also much likelier than women to feel that trans students were treated better and much less likely to feel that they were treated worse. Among transgender students themselves, none felt they were treated better, 35% felt they were treated worse to any degree. Also, gay and bisexual students were much likelier than straight ones to feel that trans students were treated worse than others. More than 28% of gay students felt trans students were treated worse or much worse while only about 9% of straight students felt the same way.
