Rice Husk Silica (RHS) is a high-purity silica material extracted from rice husks. Rice husks are a byproduct of rice processing and are usually discarded or used as low-value fuel. However, through appropriate treatment processes, high-value-added silica can be extracted from rice husks. This material has broad application prospects in many fields due to its unique physical and chemical properties.

Rice husks contain about 15% to 20% silica, which exists in amorphous or microcrystalline form, has a high specific surface area and good adsorption properties. The process of extracting rice husk silica usually includes pyrolysis, acid leaching or alkaline leaching. The pyrolysis method is to pyrolyze rice husks at high temperature to remove organic components to obtain silica; the acid leaching method uses acid solution to dissolve impurities and extract pure silica; the alkaline leaching method treats rice husks with alkaline solution to separate silica.

The application field of rice husk silica is very wide. In the agricultural field, it can be used as a soil conditioner to improve soil water retention and fertility. In the industrial field, rice husk silica can be used to make high-performance silicon-based materials such as silica gel, silica sol and white carbon black. These materials are widely used in rubber, plastic, coating, ceramic and electronic industries. In addition, rice husk silica also has good adsorption properties and can be used for water treatment and air purification to remove heavy metal ions and harmful gases.

From the perspective of environment and sustainable development, the extraction and utilization of rice husk silica is an effective way to convert agricultural waste into high value-added materials.
