Zeeman dual-frequency laser interferometer, by applying an axial magnetic field to the laser (usually a helium-neon laser), uses the Zeeman effect to make the laser output two slightly different frequencies (usually a few megahertz) of left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized light. These two beams undergo a series of optical processing (such as conversion into mutually perpendicular linear polarized light after passing through a 1/4 wave plate), and then are used as reference light and measurement light respectively. When the optical path of the measurement light changes (such as the movement of the reflector), the Doppler effect will occur, causing the frequency of the measurement light to change, and this change is proportional to the displacement of the reflector. By measuring this frequency change, the displacement of the reflector can be accurately calculated.
