The global Unmanned Underwater Robot market size is predicted to grow from US$ 3380 million in 2025 to US$ 10100 million in 2031; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 20.0% from 2025 to 2031.
An unmanned underwater robo is an autonomous underwater vehicle used for ocean science. Since gliders require little or no human assistance while traveling, these little robots are uniquely suited for collecting data in remote locations, safely and at relatively low cost. Gliders may be equipped with a wide variety of sensors to monitor temperature, salinity, currents, and other ocean conditions. This information creates a more complete picture of what is happening in the ocean, as well as trends scientists might not otherwise be able to detect from satellites or large research ships.
Security issues, concerns over contested territories, and threats have significantly increased defense spending worldwide. For instance, according to new data on global military expenditure published on April 2023 by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the total global military expenditure increased by 3.7% in real terms in 2022 to reach USD 2240 billion. The three largest spenders in 2022—the US, China, and Russia—accounted for 56% of the worlds total. Countries across the world are using forefront technologies to safeguard their borders against underwater threats. In the present global scenario, there has been an increase in threats from pirates, terrorists, and seafarers. This is creating security issues across marine borders. For instance, in July 2021, there was an attack by pirates on an oil tanker (that was linked to an Israel-based billionaire) off Oman in the Arabian Sea. Also, according to a UN report in 2019, seabeds are becoming a tangle of ungoverned seabed cables, posing a new threat to international peace and security. Piracy and maritime terrorism are major threats to global shipping, causing huge economic losses and posing a huge threat to human life. In addition, maritime security is threatened by maritime drug smuggling and migrant smuggling. The use of UURs to counter such threats and improve maritime security through ISR operations is expected to drive market growth. Additionally, the market is seeing expansion opportunities due to rising government investments in innovation, technological breakthroughs, and increased security control capabilities.
