Description

The global Ultra-high Strength Aluminum Alloy market size is predicted to grow from US$ 976 million in 2025 to US$ 1757 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.9% from 2026 to 2032.

Ultra-high strength aluminum alloys generally refer to aluminum alloys with a yield strength of over 500 MPa, with the 7-series being a common example. This series of aluminum alloys was initially developed for aerospace applications and has now become the primary structural material for military and civilian aircraft worldwide, accounting for 70-80% of aircraft structural components. It has replaced expensive titanium alloys in many fields, becoming an indispensable lightweight structural material. With the continuous development of modern aerospace, nuclear industry, and transportation, higher demands are being placed on the comprehensive performance of structural components. The new generation of ultra-high strength aluminum alloys, combining lightweight, high strength, high toughness, high fracture toughness, and resistance to stress corrosion, is undoubtedly the preferred solution. In 2024, global production of Ultra-high Strength Aluminum Alloy was approximately 217,500 tons, with an average selling price of US$4,225.35 per ton and a gross profit margin of approximately 24.6%-38%. The company's annual production capacity is 100,000 tons. Downstream customers include Boeing and Airbus.

Aluminum alloys, as a relatively mature lightweight high-strength alloy material, are used extensively in aerospace. Aluminum alloys are generally used as structural materials, possessing higher specific strength and superior processing performance than steel. The aerospace field primarily develops high-strength, high-toughness, and corrosion-resistant aluminum alloys to meet the stringent operating conditions of aerospace applications. The 2000 and 7000 series aluminum alloys are widely used. In the aerospace field, the main components of 2000 series aluminum alloys are aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), and magnesium (Mg), while the main components of 7000 series aluminum alloys are Al, zinc (Zn), Mg, and Cu. There are also some high-performance (high strength, high toughness, and corrosion resistance) aluminum alloys obtained by adding special elements. Currently, the main method for obtaining high-performance aluminum alloys is by changing the casting conditions. High-strength aluminum alloys with excellent performance are mainly used in the aerospace and military fields because aerospace and military products have extremely high requirements for weight reduction, and high specific strength materials are the preferred materials for aerospace. In aircraft aluminum materials, 7000 series high-strength and high-toughness aluminum alloys and 2000 series medium-strength and high-toughness aluminum alloys play an important role. 7000 series aluminum alloys primarily use zinc (Zn) as an additive element. Heat treatment enhances the toughness of the alloy. Adding magnesium (Mg) improves its hot deformation properties and expands its quenching range. Changing heat treatment conditions can improve strength, weldability, and corrosion resistance. However, the introduction of Mg significantly increases the alloy's susceptibility to stress corrosion. Therefore, 7000 series aluminum alloys are high-strength, weldable alloys with high stress corrosion sensitivity. Al/Zn/Mg/Cu alloys, with added copper (Cu), exhibit even higher strength, classifying them as ultra-high-strength aluminum alloys. Their yield strength and tensile strength are very close, with high yield strength ratio and specific strength. However, they have poor plasticity and lower strength at high temperatures, often used for load-bearing structural components operating below 120°C.
