Global UAV Pilot License Training Service Market Growth (Status and Outlook) 2025-2031
Description
The global UAV Pilot License Training Service market size is predicted to grow from US$ 704 million in 2025 to US$ 1175 million in 2031; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.9% from 2025 to 2031.
The UAV pilot license training service is a specialized educational service designed to equip trainees with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for UAV flight operations. Through training and assessment, trainees can obtain the corresponding UAV pilot license, enabling them to legally, safely, and proficiently operate UAVs. The training content is diverse and comprehensive, covering various aspects such as UAV system knowledge, flight principles, meteorological information, and aviation regulations. The curriculum also includes extensive practical operations, encompassing fundamental flight practices like takeoff, landing exercises, and route planning. UAV pilot licenses typically encompass four types of aircraft: multi-rotor, helicopter, fixed-wing, and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) fixed-wing. The training levels are divided into three categories: visual line of sight (VLOS) pilot, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) pilot, and instructor.
Market Development Status
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are widely used in various fields such as aerial photography, agriculture, logistics, surveying and mapping, leading to a surge in demand for professional UAV operators among enterprises and individuals. Governments of various countries have introduced regulations requiring licensed operation of UAVs to standardize UAV flights. Meanwhile, a large number of enthusiasts also wish to operate UAVs with licenses for leisure and entertainment, which has driven the emergence of training services for obtaining UAV pilot licenses. In addition, with the continuous upgrading of UAV technology, the addition and improvement of functions such as autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance have increased the operational difficulty. The frequent occurrence of unauthorized flights has posed a certain threat to flight safety. Therefore, to enable users to use UAVs more safely and efficiently, the demand for professional training has also been increasing.
In the current environment, with the vigorous development of the low-altitude economy and the increasing market demand, the entities providing training services have also diversified. These mainly include UAV manufacturers, vocational colleges, corporate training centers, and Civil Aviation Administration-authorized institutions. Among them, Civil Aviation Administration-authorized institutions are one of the main entities providing UAV pilot license training.
Regulations on UAV Pilot Licenses in Various Countries and Regions
Not all UAVs globally require pilot licenses. Whether a license is required mainly depends on factors such as the type, weight, flight area, and purpose of use of the UAV. Classified by weight, UAVs weighing less than 250 grams are defined as micro UAVs, those weighing between 250 grams and 25 kilograms as light UAVs, and medium and heavy UAVs weigh more than 25 kilograms. In China, UAVs with a takeoff weight of 250 grams or more must be registered under real names. Operators of UAVs that meet any one of the following conditions—a takeoff weight of more than 7 kilograms, a flight distance beyond 500 meters, or a flight altitude above 120 meters—must hold a UAV license issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) after passing the exam to be qualified to fly.
In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issues licenses for commercial UAV operations.
The EU standard stipulates that since the introduction of UAV certificates on December 31, 2020, UAVs weighing more than 250 grams must hold certificates to fly outdoors.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) of Australia requires a Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC) for larger or commercial UAV operations and an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) for more complex or large-scale UAV operations.
Transport Canada issues a Basic Operations Certificate for recreational flights, while for commercial flights or complex UAV operations, an Advanced Operations Certificate is required, which entails more training and exams in aviation knowledge, flight skills, and safety procedures.
