A D-Latch is a digital circuit that latches a digital input signal into an internal storage unit and then maintains the state of the output signal when the input signal is not needed. It consists of basic circuits such as D flip-flops and logic gates and is commonly used to store and delay data signals in digital systems. The D-type latch gets its name from the D flip-flop it uses. A D flip-flop is a memory cell that has two input ports (clock and data) and one output port. When the rising edge of the clock signal arrives, if the data port is high level, the output port of the D flip-flop will be set to high level, otherwise the output port will be set to low level. Therefore, when the D-type latch receives a data signal, it will store the data signal into the internal D flip-flop when the next clock rising edge arrives. The output signal of the D-type latch can be controlled by logic gates, for example, an AND gate or a NOR gate can be used to control the output signal. When the latch is in the latched state, the output signal remains unchanged until the next clock rising edge arrives, at which point the output signal is updated to the data signal in the internal memory unit. D-type latches are usually used in timing control, state machines, and data transmission in digital systems, and have functions such as storage, delay, and control signals. They are one of the basic circuit blocks commonly used in digital systems.
