They are available in various forms including wire coils, strips, rods, and custom geometries depending on the application and furnace design.

Refractory metal heaters typically operate in extreme environments, with temperature ranges reaching up to 3,000 °C for tungsten, 2,200 °C for molybdenum, and 2,000 °C for tantalum, making them ideal for vacuum and inert gas applications. These heaters are fabricated in various geometries—such as rods (Ø1–50 mm), wires (Ø0.05–3 mm), strips (0.1–10 mm thick), and mesh panels—with material purities of ≥99.95% to ensure minimal contamination in semiconductor, metallurgy, and aerospace processes. Electrical resistivity ranges from ~5.2 to 19 µΩ·cm depending on the metal, and thermal conductivity varies from ~57 W/m·K (Ta) to ~174 W/m·K (W). Mechanical strength spans from 200 MPa (Ta) to over 900 MPa (W), and heaters are typically designed to support 500 W to 50 kW power ratings, mounted via clamping, bolting, or suspension. Compatible with vacuum, argon, nitrogen, or hydrogen atmospheres, these heaters may also be customized with oxidation-resistant coatings and integrated into complete hot zone assemblies.
