Description

The global Porous Zirconia Plates market size is predicted to grow from US$ 238 million in 2025 to US$ 364 million in 2031; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.4% from 2025 to 2031.

The impact of the latest U.S. tariff measures and the corresponding policy responses from countries worldwide on market competitiveness, regional economic performance, and supply chain configurations will be comprehensively evaluated in this report.

Porous zirconia plates are advanced ceramic components made from zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂) with a controlled porosity structure. These plates are produced through sintering or extrusion processes that create interconnected pores throughout the material, allowing for gas or liquid permeability while maintaining high mechanical integrity. Owing to zirconia’s inherent properties—such as high thermal stability, chemical resistance, and exceptional mechanical strength—porous zirconia plates are widely used in high-temperature filtration, catalyst supports, gas diffusion layers, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), biomedical implants, and thermal insulation systems. Their porosity can be tailored (typically ranging from 10% to 50%) with pore sizes spanning micro- to meso-scale (e.g., 0.1–50 µm), enabling customization for various functional applications. The combination of pore architecture with zirconia’s toughness makes these plates suitable for harsh or corrosive operating environments.

Porous zirconia plates are typically made from yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) or pure ZrO₂ and exhibit porosity levels ranging from 10% to 50%, with pore sizes typically between 0.1 µm and 50 µm. Their density varies from 2.5 to 4.0 g/cm³ depending on porosity, while compressive strength can reach up to 300 MPa and flexural strength ranges from 20 to 150 MPa. These plates maintain thermal stability up to 1,500 °C and offer low thermal conductivity (1–3 W/m·K), along with moderate gas permeability influenced by pore structure. Electrically, YSZ variants provide high ionic conductivity at elevated temperatures, making them suitable for solid oxide fuel cells. Standard plate dimensions include 50×50 mm or 100×100 mm with thicknesses between 1–10 mm, and surface finishes range from rough to semi-polished (Ra 1–5 µm), with tolerances typically around ±0.1 mm.
