A porcelain surge arrester is a protective device used to protect electrical equipment from lightning strikes and operational overvoltage damage. It is mainly composed of a porcelain shell and an internal nonlinear resistor element. The porcelain shell acts as an insulator and seal, and can withstand various environmental conditions, such as bad weather and pollution; the internal nonlinear resistor element is the core component of the arrester, which can change its own resistance value according to the change of voltage, thereby limiting the damage of overvoltage to electrical equipment. The porcelain shell of the porcelain surgue arrester has good weather resistance and corrosion resistance. In contrast, the polymer-based arrester may experience aging, cracking and other problems in its polymer shell when exposed to ultraviolet rays, high temperature or chemical pollution for a long time. The porcelain shell can better withstand these harsh environmental factors, and the service life of the porcelain arrester may be longer in outdoor or industrially polluted areas.
