Phosphorothioic trichloride is a colorless and transparent liquid that emits smoke. Relative density 1.668, melting point -35 ℃, boiling point 125 ℃. Dissolve in benzene, carbon disulfide, and carbon tetrachloride. It slowly hydrolyzes in cold water, but reacts rapidly in hot water, decomposing into hydrogen chloride, hydrogen sulfide, and phosphoric acid. Easy to evaporate, emits smoke in the air, has a pungent odor and strong tear jerking effect, posing great harm to the eyes and other mucous membranes. It is mainly used as a raw material for the production of organic phosphorus pesticides, such as methyl parathion, dimethyl thiophosphoryl chloride, diethyl thiophosphoryl chloride, and highly efficient and low toxic organic phosphorus pesticides such as Methamidophos, Fenthion, and Phellodendron. It is also used as a raw material for the synthesis of organic phosphorus compounds.
