A magnetic-drive micropump is a volumetric or dynamic micro-fluid transport device that utilizes the principle of magnetic coupling to achieve seal-free, zero-leakage operation. It mounts the active magnetic rotor on the motor shaft, and the driven magnetic rotor is integrated with the impeller (or gear, diaphragm). The liquid is completely sealed within the pump chamber by an isolation sleeve, eliminating the need for mechanical seals and thus completely avoiding leakage, contamination, and maintenance problems. It is particularly suitable for applications with limited space, valuable media, or toxic substances.

The raw materials for a magnetic-drive micropump can be divided into three main components: the pump body/impeller, the magnetic drive assembly, and the bearings/seals. Pump bodies and impellers are typically made of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene (GFRPP) or PVDF, accounting for the largest proportion. Isolation sleeves and shaft sleeves are mostly made of high-alumina ceramic (Al₂O₃ ≥ 99.7%) or PTFE/Rulon bearings. The driving/driven magnets use strontium ferrite or neodymium iron boron/samarium cobalt rare earth magnetic rings, with external fluororubber/EPDM seals.

In terms of cost structure, engineering plastics and ceramic parts account for approximately 45–50% of direct material costs, rare earth or ferrite magnets account for 20–25%, micro-motors (brushless DC or AC frequency converters) account for 15–20%, and bearings, seals, and hardware fasteners account for 5–10%. Direct materials account for 65–70% of the ex-factory cost, with the remainder being labor and manufacturing costs. Magnet prices fluctuate significantly with rare earth market conditions; a 10% increase in the price of NdFeB magnets will push up the overall machine cost by approximately 2–3%, making it a cost-sensitive point.
