D-Luciferin, also known as beetle luciferin or (D-(-)-2-(6'-hydroxy-2'-benzothiazolyl)-thiazoline-4-carboxylic acid), has a formula weight of 318.41 and is a synthetically made substrate which can be catalyzed by firefly luciferase. D-Luciferin is lyophilized in the form of a monopotassium salt and has been purified by HPLC to remove dehydroluciferin and L-Luciferin, both of which are competitive inhibitors of firefly luciferase.
