High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is an advanced medical technology. It uses the good intra-tissue focusing, directionality and energy permeability of ultrasound to focus the ultrasound energy emitted by the ultrasound source on a specific area (i.e. focal area) in human tissue through a certain focusing method. In a very short period of time, the temperature of the tissue in the focal area rises rapidly to above 65°C, causing coagulative necrosis of tissue cells, thereby losing the ability to proliferate, infiltrate and metastasize. Necrotic tissue can gradually become fibrotic, reduce in size, and alleviate or even disappear clinical symptoms, achieving the purpose of cure or palliative treatment.
