Long glass fiber reinforced polyurethane refers to a composite material made by uniformly dispersing continuous or chopped glass fibers (10–50 mm in length) in a polyurethane matrix (MDI/TDI + polyol), followed by high-pressure injection molding, SRIM, or pultrusion. It combines the flexibility, wear resistance, and low-temperature resistance of polyurethane with the high specific strength and high impact toughness of long glass fibers. It can be molded into complex thin-walled structures in a single process and is mainly used in lightweight load-bearing components such as automotive tailgates, battery compartment brackets, and sunroof frames.
Raw material cost structure: Polyurethane system (isocyanate + polyether/polyester polyol) approximately 2.2–2.6 USD/kg, accounting for 60–70% of the formulation; long glass fiber untwisted roving 1.8–2.2 USD/kg, accounting for 25–35%; the remaining 5–10% consists of chain extenders, foam stabilizers, mold release agents, and other additives; the total raw material cost is approximately 2.5–3.0 USD/kg, of which the matrix resin contributes 55–65%, glass fiber 25–30%, and additives and losses 10–15%.
