E-glass CFM is made by dispensing molten E-glass fibers directly onto a moving belt in an endless pattern. A binder is used to hold the filaments in place as the glass cools and hardens. The mat is then trimmed and coiled. It is most often used in closed molding applications such as vacuum infusion processing, resin transfer molding, cold forming, and compression molding. It has similar properties to chopped strand mat, with its bulk properties helping to fill the mold cavity during the closed molding process, and differs from chopped strand mat in that it is a continuous long fiber rather than chopped strands.
