On the one hand, pet ownership is evolving from simply "buying a dog/cat for guarding or companionship" to becoming a "family member + emotional support." Consumption is no longer limited to food and vaccines, but extends to grooming, checkups, training, holiday photoshoots, birthday parties, and even end-of-life care, significantly increasing the annual spending per pet. On the other hand, urban young people often work long hours and commute long distances, lacking the energy to shuttle between "buying food → vaccinations → grooming → boarding," preferring to handle all their needs within a single store/chain—"one card + one app solves everything." Comprehensive pet stores perfectly cater to this demand for "one-stop service + trust loop": as long as the medical/grooming standards are high and the service experience is excellent, customer loyalty and lifetime value (LTV) are often far higher than traditional single-store pet shops. The stores themselves are also transforming from "convenience stores" into "pet family concierges + social spaces."

From a supply and business model perspective, comprehensive pet stores appear to be "doing everything," but in reality, they are competing on a combination of operational and professional capabilities. Lower-tier pet stores simply combine product display with grooming and bathing services, ultimately getting bogged down in price wars and rent pressures. The real growth potential lies with brands or regional chains that have standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for grooming, medical care, and boarding; a team of veterinarians/grooms; digital membership management (consumption records, health profiles, vaccination/deworming reminders); and integration with online mini-programs, food delivery platforms, and community groups. They maintain cash flow through "food + supplements + daily necessities," while simultaneously increasing average order value and professional barriers through "medical care + grooming + boarding + training." Moving up the value chain involves partnering with pet insurance companies, pet hospital groups, and e-commerce platforms to transform themselves into "local service hubs." The future differentiation will be very obvious: leading chains and regional leaders will increasingly resemble "pet service versions of chain clinics + lifestyle centers," vying for urban middle-class and new middle-class customers; small and medium-sized single stores that do not specialize in a particular area (such as only doing high-end grooming, only doing medical collaboration, only doing high-end cattery + boarding) and continue to try to "do everything but only do mediocre things" will find it increasingly difficult to withstand the pressure from rent, manpower, and online channels.
