Ester Gum is formed by the esterification of rosin and glycerin. It is an important oil-soluble food additive. Its unique high-density characteristics enable it to effectively help oils remain suspended in water, so it is often widely used as a beverage stabilizer to ensure product uniformity and stability. In the food industry, ester gum are widely used as base materials in chewing gum production. It is also used as a substitute for brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in citrus oil-flavored soft drinks, or used together with BVO to achieve the desired emulsification effect. In 2024, global Food Grade Ester Gum production reached approximately 89.36 K MT, with an average global market price of around US$ 3,995 per MT.

Policy-driven policies are bringing incremental opportunities to the beverage side. The U.S. FDA has issued final rules in 2024 to revoke the allowed use of brominated vegetable oils in beverages and set a transition period. This will promote the use of alternative stabilizing and turbidity-enhancing solutions such as E445 when reformulating some fruit-flavored beverage systems. The demand structure is highly concentrated in the two major scenarios of flavor emulsification systems for non-alcoholic flavored turbid beverages and chewing gum base gums, which are typical functional additives. The direction of product upgrades is clear. High-end beverages prefer light-colored, low-odor and low-metal impurity versions. Suppliers will improve the purification level and strengthen stability indicators through processes such as steam refining.
