Flame-retardant carbon fiber prepreg is a composite material semi-finished product made by pre-impregnating carbon fiber reinforcement (fabric/unidirectional tape) with a flame-retardant resin system (such as epoxy, BMI, phenolic, etc.) and controlling the resin content and volatile matter. It combines high specific strength/specific modulus with flame retardancy, low smoke, and low toxicity, making it suitable for structural components with strict fire safety requirements.

Upstream industries include carbon fiber precursor and carbon fiber (mainly PAN-based), flame-retardant resin and curing agent, flame-retardant additives (phosphorus/nitrogen-based, halogen-free systems), surface treatment agents, and release paper/film, among other auxiliary materials. Downstream customers are mainly manufacturers of structural and interior components in fields such as rail transportation, aerospace, shipbuilding and marine engineering, wind power and energy storage, building reinforcement, and new energy vehicles.

In 2025, the global unit price of flame-retardant carbon fiber prepreg was $124/kg, with sales of 3,127 tons, an average annual production capacity of approximately 125 tons per production line, and an industry profit margin of 15-20%.

Regulations and safety standards will continue to drive demand.
