Epoxy-resin Prepreg DMD is a flexible electrical insulation laminate made by impregnating an F-class DMD substrate (polyester film “Mylar/PET” core with polyester non-woven “Dacron” facings) with a heat-resistant modified epoxy system and pre-curing it to a B-stage (semi-cured) state. This gives shelf stability and handling flexibility at room temperature, while enabling rapid curing and strong bonding under heat/pressure during assembly.

Upstream inputs include: (1) the DMD base laminate (PET film + polyester non-woven + high-temperature adhesive, commonly F-class DMD/6641), (2) a heat-curable epoxy formulation with latent cure chemistry suitable for B-staging, and (3) the prepreg process (impregnation/metering, staged baking to B-stage, rewinding/slitting). Key controls are resin content, volatiles/low-molecular species, degree of B-staging, and curing window.

Downstream, epoxy prepreg DMD is used where insulation must also provide bonding and structural consolidation. A primary use is interlayer insulation for foil-wound LV coils (copper/aluminum foil) in dry-type transformers, where curing creates an integrated low-shrinkage insulation structure. It is also used for slot, phase, and turn insulation in F-class motors/electrical appliances.
