Resolver is a device that converts the mechanical angular displacement and angular velocity of a rotating object into electrical signal output. Rotary transformers are used as position sensors in new energy vehicles, along with automotive-grade Hall effect sensors and optical encoders. Position sensors are used in various parts of a vehicle, including brake and accelerator pedals, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), suspension height modules, headlights, camshafts and crankshafts, and gear switches. These parts operate in relatively better environments than the motor system, and due to cost considerations, Hall effect sensors or optical encoders are primarily used, with rotary transformers being less common. However, in new energy vehicles, the drive motor operates in harsh environments such as high frequency and vibration, oil contamination, and humidity. Hall effect sensors and optical encoders cannot maintain stable operation in these conditions for extended periods. Rotary transformers, on the other hand, offer strong environmental adaptability, high reliability, and long lifespan, making them the mainstream choice for position sensors in new energy vehicle drive motors. Currently, there are no products or solutions on the market that are suitable for new energy vehicle drive motors and outperform rotary transformers in terms of overall performance, reliability, and cost.
