Description

The global Elevator Speed Limiting Buffer market size is predicted to grow from US$ 417 million in 2025 to US$ 553 million in 2031; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.8% from 2025 to 2031.

The impact of the latest U.S. tariff measures and the corresponding policy responses from countries worldwide on market competitiveness, regional economic performance, and supply chain configurations will be comprehensively evaluated in this report.

The elevator drop buffer is a safety device used in elevator systems to prevent serious damage to passengers and elevator equipment when the elevator falls or suddenly slides down. It absorbs the impact energy during the elevator fall, slows down the elevator's descent speed, and ensures that the elevator can stop safely in extreme situations. The elevator drop buffer is usually installed at the bottom of the elevator shaft or the bottom of the elevator car as an emergency brake device.

According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, China's elevator production in 2022 was 1.455 million units, which was down 5.8% compared to last year. After years of development, China has become the world's largest elevator producer and consumer. More than 70% of the world's elevator manufacturing business were in Chinese mainland, and 60%-65% of the world's elevators sold in the Chinese market. According to data from the China Elevator Association, by the end of 2022, the number of elevators registered in operation in China has reached 9.65 million, and more than 15,000 elevators have been installed after acceptance.

The working principle of the elevator drop buffer is to use its internal elastic material, hydraulic system or mechanical structure to absorb the kinetic energy of the elevator when it falls. When an abnormal situation occurs in the elevator, the buffer will be quickly activated to slow down the elevator's descent speed and eventually stop safely, avoiding direct collision between the elevator and the bottom of the shaft and reducing damage to personnel and equipment.

At present, there are two major types of elevator speed limiters: one-way speed limiters (US$130-US$260) and two-way speed limiters (US$240-US$500). Under the major types, there are also electronic and mechanical types (currently mechanical is the mainstream, accounting for more than 75%, and the proportion of electronic types will gradually increase with the installation of new elevators). The product is applied in factories, office buildings, residential buildings, and some specific scenarios.

With the acceleration of urbanization, the demand for elevators has increased, bringing the elevator speed limiter market size to continue to grow. The market will be US$435 million in 2024, and the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is expected to be between 6% and 8% in the next five years. The main production areas include Asia (China, Japan, South Korea), Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Italy, etc.) and the United States. Among them, China, as the world's largest production base, occupies a dominant position in the market. The consumer market is also concentrated in Asia, Europe and North America.

The production of elevator speed limiters mainly consists of speed limit wheels (generally aluminum alloy), shells (aluminum alloy), guide wheels (steel) and bearing seats (cast aluminum). The upstream of the industry relies on high-end equipment such as precision CNC machine tools, laser cutting machines, stamping machines, welding equipment, spraying/electroplating equipment and automated assembly lines.

Downstream, with the continuous upgrading of elevator safety standards, policy promotion and industry demand growth, the use of elevator speed limiters has been promoted. The main development in the past three years has shown an N-shaped trend. One of the main inhibitory factors is the slowdown in China's real estate development (decline in completed area) and infrastructure development (reduction in infrastructure expenditure and engineering volume), which has suppressed the demand for speed limiters. The main growth point driven by future policies is the mandatory scrapping and maintenance of elevators and the installation of elevators in old buildings. These two factors may become a major development direction in the future.

In the future, intelligence, energy saving and environmental protection and higher safety standards will become the main development trend of elevator speed limiters. Domestic substitution has gradually started since 2000. As of 2024, it currently occupies a larger share in the global market, exceeding 45%, of which exports account for a small proportion, about 8% of the total domestic exports. With the current unstable tariff factors, exports may be affected. Considering that the export volume is relatively small, some domestic policies may be introduced to digest this part of the export volume.
