Global Elevator Light Curtain Market Growth 2026-2032
Description
The global Elevator Light Curtain market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1055 million in 2025 to US$ 1543 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.7% from 2026 to 2032.
Elevator light curtain is a non-contact door protection device installed on both sides of the elevator car door or landing door. It consists of multiple beams of infrared light forming a "grating protective curtain" to detect in real time whether there are people or objects standing or passing through the car door area. It typically consists of two light curtain strips, one for transmitting and one for receiving, with dozens to hundreds of pairs of infrared transmitting/receiving units arranged inside. When a person, stroller, suitcase, or even a slender object blocks any beam of light, the system will immediately send a signal to the elevator control system to prevent the door from closing or trigger the door to reopen, thus replacing the traditional mechanical touch panel. This significantly reduces the risk of "people/objects being trapped when the door closes," improving the safety and comfort of elevator rides, and is one of the standard safety components in mid-to-high-end elevators.2025 sales volume was 2.4 million units, with an average price of $425 per unit. Annual production capacity was 2.8 million units, and the gross profit margin was approximately 40%.
From the demand side, elevator light curtains have transformed from an "optional configuration" into an essential safety component in the vast majority of new elevator projects. On the one hand, the global elevator stock continues to rise, and the passenger demographic is increasingly aging and includes more children. Combined with high-traffic areas like shopping malls, hospitals, and subways, the requirements for elevators to prevent people from being trapped and to ensure that small, vulnerable individuals are not missed are becoming increasingly stringent, rendering traditional mechanical touch panels inadequate. On the other hand, many countries and regions have directly or indirectly incorporated light curtain-type contactless door protection into their new elevator standards and old elevator renovation guidelines, making "whether or not a high-performance light curtain is installed" a fundamental safety requirement during bidding and acceptance processes for real estate projects, elevator manufacturers, and property management companies. The combined effect of existing elevator replacements and new installations means that the demand for light curtains is growing almost in tandem with the elevator stock, showing a trend of "nearly 100% installation rate and upgrades towards high-density beams and anti-interference performance" in urban clusters, areas with dense rail transit, and public buildings.
From the supply side, elevator light curtains represent a low-priced, seemingly highly competitive, but structurally promising niche component market. In the low-end segment, basic light curtains with dozens of beam pairs are already highly domestically produced and largely homogenized, with competition focusing on cost control and supply stability. However, in the high-end and differentiated segment, several directions warrant attention: First, higher beam density and stronger resistance to oil, dust, and strong light interference for use in "dirty and high-frequency" environments such as subways, ports, and factories; second, integration with door control, passenger behavior recognition, and even 3D camera/ToF solutions to upgrade simple "block and open" light curtains into door area sensing modules that can recognize complex targets such as children's fingers, wheelchairs, shopping carts, and long objects; and third, integration with remote monitoring and safety supervision platforms to upload data on door area anomalies and frequent obstructions for assessing elevator usage behavior and potential risks. For the industry chain, future profits are more likely to come from "more intelligent door area sensing + system integration and services," rather than simply engaging in price wars over basic light curtains.
