Description

The global Drilling Mud Treatment Agent market size is predicted to grow from US$ million in 2025 to US$ million in 2031; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of %from 2025 to 2031.

In order to maintain the excellent and stable properties of the mud to meet the needs of the drilling process, treatment agents (additives) must be added to various muds (water-based, oil-based), especially in complex formations (such as collapsed formations, salt-gypsum formations) for deep drilling or horizontal drilling, various treatments are required. There are as many as 2,520 brands of mud treatment agents on the market, but in fact there are about 100 to 200 types of chemicals contained in them. Divided into 16 categories according to the product use, such as viscosifiers, fluid loss reducers, corrosion inhibitors, dilution and dispersants, plugging agents, emulsifiers, shale control agents, etc. In the late 1960s, the application of organic flocculant (polyacrylamide) and selective flocculant (vinyl acetate and maleic anhydride copolymer) developed a non-dispersible mud system and achieved excellent results. For example: in western Canada, the application of this flocculant increased the drilling footage by 56%, the working time of the drill bit by 45%, and the mechanical footage increased by 12%; China began to promote the non-dispersible mud system in 1974, which increased the drilling speed on average 20%. In order to drill deep wells of 7km (bottom hole temperature above 200°C) and geothermal wells (250°C), a compound of resin and lignite, styrene maleic anhydride copolymer, specially synthesized high temperature and salt resistant polymers. The use of drilling mud treatment agents has accumulated a lot of experience. For low-permeability oil wells, inorganic salts such as calcium bromide, zinc bromide, and zinc chloride can be used to prepare completion fluids with high relative density (up to 2.0 or more) and no solids , can increase oil production exponentially; use foaming agent to make ultra-light mud, which can liberate low-pressure oil and gas layers and eliminate lost circulation; use imidazoline corrosion inhibitor and polyoxymethylene fungicide to reduce corrosion loss and prolong drilling tool life; using graphite, oil, hard asphalt and other lubricants can reduce mud bag sticking accidents; using emulsified mud can overcome drilling difficulties in complex formations; using anti-pollution polymers can enable drilling tools to drill into large sections of salt layers; Thickeners (polyacrylamide, hydroxyethyl cellulose, biopolymers) and thinner dispersants (lignite, lignin sulfonates, phosphates) can adjust the flow pattern. Treatments are required to reduce fluid loss, stabilize shale and prevent damage to formations. Hydrogen sulfide is a poisonous gas. Adding sponge iron to the mud can not only be used as an indicator of hydrogen sulfide, but also can quantitatively remove hydrogen sulfide to prevent corrosion and human poisoning caused by it.
