The working principle of laser direct metal deposition technology, namely DLMD (Direct Laser Metal Deposition) is similar to that of SLM technology. The difference is that in the DLMD process, the powder is not preset on the working platform, but is fed into the molten pool on the surface of the substrate in real time through the powder feeding mechanism and nozzle when the metal substrate is scanned by the laser. Without the limitation of powder bed, DLMD technology has no theoretical limitation on the size of molded parts, so it is very suitable for molding large metal structural parts. Limited by the aggregate size of the powder (generally, the diameter of the powder spot is more than 1 mm), the molding accuracy of DLMD is lower than that of SLM, but the molding efficiency is much higher.
