Medical: COC/COP has excellent water vapor barrier and biocompatibility, heat resistance, chemical resistance and extremely low protein adsorption, as well as resistance to water vapor and ultraviolet disinfection. It is currently a high-quality material in the medical field and is suitable for the manufacture of medical devices such as microtiter plates, blood reservoirs, hemodialyzers, petri dishes, prefilled syringes, pipettes and vaccine vials. It can also be used for biochips. With the development of injection medical beauty and the increasing demand for sealed medical containers such as vaccine bottles, the consumption of COC/COP in the medical field will also maintain a certain growth rate.

Packaging: COC/COP can be blended with bulk polyolefin products such as LLDPE and HDPE for food and pharmaceutical packaging, which can reduce packaging thickness, improve odor and water vapor barrier properties, and improve packaging mechanical properties and tearability. For example, it is mixed with ordinary PE to produce heat shrink film on PET packaging. Its low density is used to facilitate the automatic sorting of materials during the recycling and classification of plastic packaging. In addition, COC/COP and polytrifluorochloroethylene composite film can be used to make blister packaging for medicines due to its excellent water vapor barrier and vacuum formability, making it thinner and reducing water vapor permeation.

Other fields: Cycloolefin polymer materials also have excellent dielectric properties and can be used in the field of dielectric materials. For example, COC is used in the field of electronics for film capacitor film materials. In addition, COC/COP can also be used in electronic and electrical fields such as filter membranes and mobile device antennas.

In terms of price, according to different application fields and performance parameters, the relevant COC/COP products currently provided by manufacturers are priced between 7,000 and 43,000 US dollars per ton, and the price gap is relatively large. The price of COC products from Japanese manufacturers is basically above 17,000 US dollars, such as the market price of Japan's Zeon optical grade K26R cycloolefin polymer is 25.7 to 31,000 US dollars per ton. In addition, taking the main benchmark product of APL-5014CL of Akeli COC as an example, the price of Japanese manufacturers is basically between 17,000 and 22,000 US dollars per ton, while Akeli expects the market sales price to be around 11,000 US dollars per ton. The relatively low price can greatly broaden the downstream application areas of COC/COP products, stimulate new demand, and promote market expansion. Cyclic polyolefins have high technical barriers, mainly involving some core technologies such as the synthesis of cycloolefin monomers (norbornene NB), metallocene catalysts, purification of copolymer products, and regulation of chain structure and relative molecular weight.
