Commercial vehicle headlights are front lighting equipment equipped on commercial vehicles (such as trucks, buses, etc.) and are used to provide lighting in front of the vehicle. It usually consists of low beam, high beam, turn signal, daytime running lights, etc. to ensure that sufficient lighting is provided when driving at night or in poor visibility conditions, and to improve the driver's driving safety.

In commercial vehicle headlights, the upstream tier covers LED/HID/halogen light sources, reflector and lens optics, housings and connectors, plus driver and control ICs. Midstream are headlamp module and assembly Tier-1 suppliers—Koito, Valeo, FORVIA HELLA, Marelli, ZKW—along with regional specialists such as Lumax, Varroc, TYC and Xingyu that are strongly positioned in truck and bus applications. The downstream comprises truck and bus OEM programs and a sizeable aftermarket for replacement and retrofit.

In 2024, global commercial vehicle headlights production reached approximately 55 million units, with an average global market price of around US$ 100 per unit.

Commercial vehicle headlights are the primary forward lighting units for trucks, buses, coaches, delivery vans and a wide range of vocational and construction vehicles. Compared with passenger-car headlights, they sit at the intersection of tool-like functionality and fleet economics: long nightly operating hours, mixed highway–urban duty cycles and frequent bad-weather driving make beam reach, uniformity and anti-glare performance critical for safety, while fleets demand ruggedness, ease of service and predictable lifecycle cost to minimise downtime and compliance risk. As a result, commercial vehicle headlights are typically larger, more robust and more conservative in styling, but far more demanding in terms of mechanical strength, optical performance and reliability.

On the technology side, commercial vehicle headlights have been migrating from halogen to LED, with projector modules, integrated DRLs and even matrix-style LED solutions gradually entering premium trucks and long-distance coaches. The design emphasis is less on aggressive styling and more on a wide, homogeneous light distribution that covers long-range highway vision as well as road shoulders, pedestrians and vulnerable road users. Housings, brackets, sealing and lens materials are reinforced to withstand vibration, stone impacts, heavy rain and dust, and to keep performance stable over long operating hours. For different use cases—long-haul logistics, regional distribution, urban delivery, construction sites, mining or cold-chain operation—OEMs and lighting suppliers fine-tune beam patterns, colour temperature, switching strategies and height adjustment to balance visibility, driver fatigue, bad-weather penetration and regulatory constraints.

As electronic architectures in commercial vehicles move toward body and ADAS domain controllers, commercial vehicle headlights are evolving from simple switched loads into intelligent, networked endpoints. Automatic high/low beam control, steering-linked cornering lights, slope/curve-adaptive beam shaping and enhanced DRLs are being adopted on higher-end trucks and buses, using steering-angle, speed, camera and rain/light sensor inputs to dynamically adjust light distribution and reduce the need for manual operation by the driver. At the same time, distinctive DRL and outline-light signatures are increasingly used by OEMs and large fleets as moving brand identifiers, improving daytime conspicuity and fleet image.

From an industry perspective, commercial vehicle headlights lie at the crossroads of regulation, safety and cost pressure. Lighting regulations continue to tighten in terms of performance, installation, fault indication and compatibility with advanced driver assistance, pushing designs toward modular, platform-based architectures that can be reused across multiple vehicle families and regions. Fleet operators, however, place equal emphasis on serviceability—such as tool-less bulb/module replacement, standardised interfaces and easy access—and on reducing parts complexity and inventory. For Tier-1 suppliers, the long-term winners will be those able to offer scalable LED and electronics platforms, modular mechanical designs and application-specific optics, while collaborating closely with OEMs and fleets to balance three core objectives in each program: safety performance, operating efficiency and brand differentiation.
