Cobalt(II) acetate is an organic cobalt salt formed by divalent cobalt ions (Co²⁺) and acetate ions (CH₃COO⁻). It usually exists in anhydrous form or in the form of hydrates containing different crystal waters. The most common is cobalt acetate tetrahydrate (Co(CH₃COO)₂·4H₂O), which appears as pink to red crystals. Cobalt acetate has good solubility and is easily soluble in water and ethanol. It is widely used in chemical synthesis, catalyst manufacturing, ceramic pigments, electroplating industry, and precursors of lithium battery materials. Its stability and physical properties vary with the hydration state. Anhydrous cobalt acetate easily absorbs moisture and transforms into hydrates. As an important organic salt of cobalt, cobalt acetate has important application value in industry and scientific research.
