Chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM) is an important specialty synthetic rubber made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or low-density polyethylene (LDPE) in solution through a two-step chemical reaction of chlorination and chlorosulfonation. Its molecular structure is characterized by the replacement of some hydrogen atoms on the polyethylene backbone with chlorine atoms, and the introduction of a small amount of chlorosulfonyl groups. Its core performance advantage lies in its excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance and chemical corrosion resistance. CSM has extremely strong resistance to erosion by sunlight (especially ultraviolet rays), oxygen and ozone, which is far superior to many general-purpose rubbers, making it an ideal material for long-term outdoor use, such as wire and cable sheathing and roof waterproofing membranes.
