Global Automotive short Glass Fiber Reinforced PBT Market Growth 2026-2032
Description
The global Automotive short Glass Fiber Reinforced PBT market size is predicted to grow from US$ 818 million in 2025 to US$ 1280 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.7% from 2026 to 2032.
Global sales of automotive short glass fiber reinforced PBT reached 277,000 tons in 2025, with an average price of $3,015 per ton.
Automotive short glass fiber reinforced PBT (SFR-PBT) is a thermoplastic composite material made by melt-blending and granulating 0.2–0.8 mm alkali-free short-cut glass fibers with polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin, followed by injection molding to produce thin-walled precision parts such as automotive connectors, ignition coil brackets, and headlight trim rings. While maintaining the advantages of PBT's low moisture absorption and high electrical insulation, it increases tensile strength by 3–4 times, allowing it to replace metal for extended periods in engine compartments at 120°C or headlight cavities at 85°C.
On the raw material side, PBT resin accounts for 60-70% of the formulation weight and 65-75% of the cost. Its monomers, terephthalic acid and butanediol, are both derived from the petrochemical route, and their prices fluctuate with the crude oil-PTA chain. Short-cut alkali-free glass fiber accounts for 25-35% and 18-22% of the cost. It is made by melting and drawing minerals such as quartz sand and limestone into short-cut fibers, resulting in high energy consumption and sensitivity to natural gas prices. The remaining 5-10% consists of coupling agents, transesterification inhibitors, heat stabilizers, and other additives. Overall, raw material costs account for 75-80% of the ex-factory price, making PBT resin market conditions the primary driver of cost fluctuations.
