Global Automotive Short Glass Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene Market Growth 2026-2032
Description
The global Automotive Short Glass Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1001 million in 2025 to US$ 1520 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2026 to 2032.
Global sales of automotive short glass fiber reinforced polypropylene reached 327,225 tons in 2025, with an average price of US$3,128 per ton.
Automotive short glass fiber reinforced polypropylene (SGFPP) is a thermoplastic composite material made of polypropylene (PP) matrix, uniformly dispersed with short, alkali-free glass fibers (10–40% by mass) with a length of 0.2–0.6 mm, and compatibilizers such as maleic anhydride-grafted PP, through twin-screw extrusion-injection molding. Because the fiber length is below the critical length, the reinforcement efficiency is lower than that of long glass fiber grades, but the molding process is simple, the equipment is universal, and complex thin-walled parts can be manufactured quickly.
The main raw materials for automotive short glass fiber reinforced polypropylene (SGFPP) are polypropylene resin (homogeneous or copolymer, 60–90 wt%), alkali-free chopped glass fibers (10–40 wt%) with a length of 2–4 mm, and small amounts of maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene compatibilizer, antioxidant, and lubricant. The glass fibers are surface-treated with a silane coupling agent and can be directly injection molded after extrusion granulation. In the cost structure, polypropylene resin accounts for approximately 45–55%, chopped glass fibers 30–40%, compatibilizers and additives 5–10%, and the remainder is for energy consumption and manufacturing costs. Due to the short fiber length and the lack of complex impregnation equipment, SGFPP has the lowest cost per ton among the three types of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene, making it the mainstream choice for automotive interior and exterior trim parts and body panels.
