Automotive long glass fiber reinforced polyurethane (LGF-PU) is a composite material made by uniformly dispersing glass fibers (10–50 mm in length) within a polyurethane matrix produced by the reaction of isocyanate and polyol, through injection molding or extrusion molding. It combines the flexibility, sound insulation, and low-temperature resistance of PU with the high specific strength and high impact toughness of long glass fibers. It can operate continuously within a temperature range of -40℃ to 120℃ and is mainly used to replace steel sheets and short-fiber reinforced plastics, achieving weight reduction, noise reduction, and integrated design.

The raw materials for automotive long glass fiber reinforced polyurethane (LGF-PU) consist of two main parts: a polyurethane system and long glass fibers. Isocyanate (MDI/TDI) and polyether/polyester polyols together account for 55–65% of the formulation, costing approximately USD 2.2–2.8/kg; long glass fibers (10–50 mm) account for 25–35%, costing USD 1.8–2.2/kg; the remaining 5–10% consists of chain extenders, catalysts, release agents, and other additives. The total raw material cost is approximately USD 2.5–3.5/kg, with the matrix resin contributing 55–65%, glass fiber 25–30%, and additives and losses 10–15%.
