Automotive glass fiber reinforced polyurethane (PU-GFRP) is a composite material made by uniformly incorporating short or long glass fibers into a polyurethane matrix produced by reacting isocyanate (MDI/TDI) with polyols, followed by reaction injection molding (RIM/SRIM) or compression molding. It combines the flexibility, sound insulation, and low-temperature resistance of PU with the high specific strength of glass fiber, allowing for the one-piece molding of complex thin-walled parts. It is widely used in automotive body panels, structural supports, and interior functional components.
Raw material cost structure: Polyurethane system (MDI/TDI + polyether/polyester polyol) approximately 2.2–2.6 USD/kg, accounting for 60–70% of the formulation; glass fiber (chopped strand or felt) 1.6–2.2 USD/kg, accounting for 25–35%; the remaining 5–10% consists of chain extenders, catalysts, mold release agents, and other additives; the total raw material cost is approximately 2.3–3.0 USD/kg, of which the matrix resin contributes 55–65%, glass fiber 20–30%, and additives and losses 10–15%.
