Automotive glass fiber reinforced polyamide (GF-PA) is a thermoplastic composite material made by melt-blending alkali-free glass fiber with polyamides (PA6, PA66, etc.). It is specifically designed for use in both structural and non-structural automotive components. It combines high rigidity, heat resistance, dimensional stability, and injection molding capability, enabling the replacement of steel with plastic under operating conditions of 80–150°C. It is widely used in components such as intake manifolds, front-end frames, battery brackets, and door anti-collision beams.
On the raw material side, PA matrix accounts for 55-70% of the formulation mass and 60-75% of the cost; its monomer price fluctuates with the petroleum-benzene chain. Alkali-free glass fiber accounts for 25-40% and 20-25% of the cost; it is made by melting and drawing minerals such as quartz sand and limestone into short or continuous strands, resulting in high energy consumption and sensitivity to natural gas prices. The remaining 5-10% consists of coupling agents, heat stabilizers, lubricants, and other additives. Raw materials together account for 75-80% of the ex-factory price, making the polyamide resin market the primary driver of cost fluctuations.
