Description

The global Automotive Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polyamide market size is predicted to grow from US$ 231 million in 2025 to US$ 420 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9.0% from 2026 to 2032.

Global sales of automotive carbon fiber reinforced polyamide reached 23,699 tons in 2025, with an average price of $7,863 per ton.

Carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRPs) are high-strength, light-weight composite materials consisting of a polymer matrix and carbon fibers (CFs). Owing to the high strength-to-weight ratio, CFRPs have been proposed as alternative structural materials to metals.

Automotive carbon fiber reinforced polyamide is a thermoplastic composite material with carbon fiber as the reinforcing phase and polyamide (nylon) resin as the matrix. It combines the characteristics of being lightweight, high-strength, and injection moldable, and is rapidly penetrating the fields of new energy vehicles, structural components, and exterior parts.

The raw materials for automotive carbon fiber reinforced polyamide consist of three components: carbon fiber, polyamide, and interface additives. The carbon fiber is primarily T300-T700 grade 12K-24K tow, with domestically produced costing 80-120 RMB/kg (including tax) and imported costing 120-160 RMB/kg. The matrix resin is categorized into three grades based on heat resistance: ordinary PA6/PA66 costs approximately 18-25 RMB/kg, low-absorption PA12 costs approximately 35-45 RMB/kg, and semi-aromatic high-temperature PA6T/9T reaches 70-100 RMB/kg. Adding 0.5-2% coupling agent, antioxidant, and carbon nanotube conductive masterbatch, the additive cost is approximately 3-5 RMB/kg.

In a typical 30 wt% short fiber CF/PA66 granule, carbon fiber accounts for approximately 65% of the cost, PA resin approximately 30%, and additives and manufacturing costs only approximately 5%. If upgraded to continuous fiber prepreg tape (areal density 150 g/m²), the amount of carbon fiber increases to 50 wt%, doubling the cost. Furthermore, yield, wide-width winding, and online quality inspection further increase manufacturing costs by 10-15%. Ultimately, the material cost is approximately 2.5 times that of aluminum plates of the same thickness and 3 times that of high-strength steel. However, this comes at the cost of a 40-50% weight reduction and a decrease in downstream assembly costs due to injection molding/welding capabilities.
