Fabricated Wood Manufacturing in New Zealand
The Fabricated Wood Manufacturing industry produces reconstituted wood products like particleboard and medium-density fibreboard (MDF), which are used in building construction, or for manufacturing furniture and joinery products. Downstream building and manufacturing markets largely drive sales of fabricated wood products. Even so, local firms are net exporters of fabricated wood products and exports contribute 42.9% of revenue in 2022-23. Fabricated wood manufacturers have undergone substantial restructuring as excess local production capacity has put pressure on pricing and profitability. This has included increased concentration since Daiken New Zealand Limited acquired Dongwha New Zealand Limited in 2018.
Industry operators manufacture wood boards and sheets from reconstituted wood fibres, such as wood chips, sawdust, wood shavings, timber slabs and off-cuts. Firms that manufacture timber and non-timber laminates are also included in the industry.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
