Global Thermally-Modified Timber (TMT) Market 2025 by Manufacturers, Regions, Type and Application, Forecast to 2031
Description
According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Thermally-Modified Timber (TMT) market size was valued at US$ 4796 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of USD 6375 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 4.2% during review period.
Thermally-Modified Timber (TMT) is referring to a wood which is modified by a controlled pyrolysis process. In this process, the wood is heated up to 180°Celcius, in the absence of oxygen. This process helps the chemical to change its cell structure of cell wall components in the wood in order to increase its durability. During this process, the low oxygen content prevents the wood from burning even at the high temperature. There are five thermal modification processes: Thermowood, Retification Process, Les Bois Perdure, Plato Process, and Oil Heat Treatment.
Thermal modification uses heat to remove organic compounds from the wood cells, so it will not absorb water, expand, contract, or provide nourishment for insects or fungi. The high heat produces a naturally durable wood that is permanently resistant to water, insects, and decay. Because the wood is not absorbing chemicals to be treated, but rather removing moisture, the wood is lightweight.
Sustainability and Environmental Concerns: The growing awareness and concern for the environment have led to a greater emphasis on sustainable building materials. TMT is often perceived as an eco-friendly option as it uses natural wood and reduces the need for chemical treatments.
Increased Demand for Durable Building Materials: The construction industry demands durable materials that can withstand various environmental conditions. TMT"s enhanced durability, stability, and resistance to decay make it an attractive choice for both outdoor and indoor applications.
Regulatory Support for Sustainable Building Practices: Many regions and governments are promoting the use of sustainable materials through regulations and incentives. TMT, being a sustainable option, receives support from such regulations and initiatives, boosting its market demand.
