Global LLC Resonant Converter Market 2025 by Manufacturers, Regions, Type and Application, Forecast to 2031

According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global LLC Resonant Converter market size was valued at US$ 157 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of USD 274 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 8.2% during review period.

The LLC converter is a resonant inverter with three reactive elements where the DC input voltage is turned into a square wave by a switch network arranged as either a half- or full-bridge to feed the resonant LLC tank that effectively filters out harmonics providing a sinusoidal like voltage and current waveform. This in turn feeds a transformer that provides voltage scaling and primary-secondary isolation. The converter power flow is controlled by modulating the square wave frequency with respect to the tank circuit's resonance. In an LLC resonant converter, all semiconductor switches are soft-switching, or zero-voltage switching (ZVS), at turn-on for the primary MOSFETs and zero-current switching (ZCS) at both turn-on and turn-off for the rectifiers in the secondary; resulting in low electro-magnetic emissions levels (EMI). In addition, it can enable a high degree of integration in the magnetic parts, enabling the design of converters with higher efficiency and power density.

As for the type, power switches can be implemented in full-bridge or half-bridge topologies, each with its own unique output waveform. The main difference between the full-bridge and half-bridge topologies is that the full-bridge topology generates a square wave with no DC offset and an amplitude equal to the input voltage (VIN). The half-bridge topology generates a square wave with an offset (VIN / 2), so the amplitude is only half of the full-bridge wave. Relatively speaking, each topology has its own advantages and disadvantages: the full-bridge topology requires more transistors, so the implementation cost is higher. In addition, the added transistors will increase the series resistance (RDS(ON)), thereby increasing the conduction loss; but on the other hand, the full-bridge implementation can reduce the necessary transformer turns ratio (N) by half, so the copper loss in the transformer can be minimized. The half-bridge topology is more cost-effective to implement, and it can reduce the RMS current across the capacitor by about 15%; however, this topology increases switching losses. After weighing the pros and cons, manufacturers usually use the half-bridge power switch topology in applications with power below 1kW, and the full-bridge topology in higher power applications. In terms of the growth rate of the downstream market, the electric vehicle and server and other communication equipment markets have grown rapidly in recent years, and the penetration rate has increased rapidly; while the lighting power supply, industrial power supply and other markets have grown slowly, and because the market is relatively stable, the penetration rate of LLC Resonant Converters in these markets has grown slowly. For other downstream applications, mainly including power supplies for medical and military purposes, the expected growth rate of LLC Resonant Converters used in these markets in the next five years is relatively moderate.
