High Throughput Satellites (HTS), also known as high-throughput communications satellites, are designed to provide high-throughput communications, compared to traditional communications satellites that use the same frequency resources. Key technical features include multi-spot beams, frequency reuse, and high beam gain. HTS offer capacity several times, or even dozens of times, higher than conventional communications satellites. While traditional communications satellites offer capacities of less than 10 Gbit/s, HTS can reach tens to hundreds of Gbit/s.

HTS significantly increases per-satellite capacity through higher spectrum reuse and beamforming, expanding from traditional GEO to multi-orbit architectures such as MEO/LEO. Recent industry mergers and acquisitions (such as the Viasat-Inmarsat merger and the formation of the Eutelsat Group by Eutelsat and OneWeb) have accelerated the development of integrated "GEO + non-GEO" services and end-to-end solutions for government, aviation and maritime, cellular backhaul, and enterprise private lines. Furthermore, the rollout of next-generation systems (such as SES's O3b mPOWER and Hughes' JUPITER-3) continues to expand capacity and coverage. Many institutions expect the HTS market to maintain high growth in the next few years, driven by growing demand for connectivity and the commercialization of multi-track networks.
