Drug eluting guidewire is a medical device that combines the traditional guiding function of the guidewire with the drug elution technology. It mainly consists of two parts: the guidewire body and the drug coating. The guidewire body is usually made of highly elastic materials (such as stainless steel, nickel-titanium alloy, etc.), has good flexibility and pushability, and can smoothly pass through blood vessels or other lumens to reach the lesion site. The drug coating is coated on the surface or specific parts of the guidewire, and these coatings contain therapeutic drugs. During interventional treatment, after the drug eluting guidewire is sent to the lesion site, the drug coating on its surface will gradually contact the blood or tissue and release the drug. These drugs can directly act on the lesion tissue and exert their therapeutic effects, such as inhibiting the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells, reducing inflammatory reactions, preventing thrombosis and restenosis, etc. This local administration method has higher targeting and lower side effects than systemic administration.
